11:40 am - Patrick Wolf at London Palladium
Patrick Wolf at London Palladium Originally uploaded by crazybobbles.
WOW, I went to see Patrick Wolf last night at the London palladium, It was possibly the best gig I've been to in years/ever. I hadn't seen Patrick Wolf live, but the magic position is one of my favourite albums of the decade. I was a little concerned, the vocals are extremely challenging, he fuckin nailed it - and blew the audience away, he technical skill in singing and playing (ukulele, viola, piano, and erm pilinky on your knee thing) there were guest apperances by Florence Walsh (of the machine) and Alex Empire. stunning.

12:18 pm - Just nearly got run over here
Just nearly got run over here Originally uploaded by mac morrison.
Stupid shared space thing this is a road, i wandered out of the tube, was obviously fiddling with my iPhone then out of the corner of my eye saw something big and fast, looked up and a car sped past me a foot away, had i of not stopped it would of hit me. three more went past equally fast, you would think drivers would go though slowly, but NOPE.
There is a mini sign you don't notice one bit, it looks like a parking restriction notice, as it's not in the visual language of pedestrians to pay attention to such street furniture, we look for patterns on the road and flashing lights.

Miroslaw Balka - turbine hall installation Originally uploaded by mac morrison.
I love this accidental photo of it. It's a better photo than a real picture of it, as its an experience that cant be captured. though this by chance give a feel of the disorientation it creates. Its hard to explain how awesome it was - i was in as it opened and there was no one in front of me - you get enveloped in darkness. then when you hit the velvet wall i let out a screech of 'FUCK!' - then the oddness of when you turn around its suddenly light - and you can clearly see everyone behind you fumbling in the dark - scary and joyful. Though reading about the artist its more about fear.

09:05 am - so i did my talk at reboot was a bit of a panic - as the previous speaker over ran by almost 30 mins then we couldnt hook up my new mac book pro to the projector (i only had a dvi adapter and it was vga only)
lessons learnt
plus i wasn't used to keynote on two screens
but i over came and did a massively abridged version in 20 mins ( the previous nights run though was hitting 50 - and i had 40 mins.)
so it kinda went tits up - but i just summarised heavily - it may appear online at the reboot site im kinda hoping it doesn't - though from a learning to present aspect its useful to see what i did wrong.
you can see the slides and random notes here
http://www.slideshare.net/maclondon/living-in-a-money-free-world
next time ill get the story telling aspect and coherent narrative bit right.

08:14 pm - Chocolate 'cheese' and pineapple cubes on sticks
Chocolate 'cheese' and pineapple cubes on sticks Originally uploaded by mac morrison.
Fake cheese ‘n’ pineapple: Today I decided to make fake cheese ‘n’ pineapple using coloured white chocolate filled with pineapple chocolate ganache. The idea being to fool people that its cheese, a-la heston B. It was a bit heath robinson, making it up as i went along, and without the proper tools/techniques. No tempering here, in fact the coloured white chocolate outer coating was decidedly buttery in texture.
Ingredience
I bar of green and blacks white chocolate.
a table spoon or so of double cream.
Some dried pineapple, some chopped very finely.
a knob of butter.
Yellow food colouring.
Cocktail sticks.
I heated the cream and added roughly twice as much chocolate, a knob of butter, finely chopped pineapple and some food colouring. mixing it together to make the ganache.
Then i melted some more chocolate with food colouring and lined a silicon ice tray with the putty like chocolate, and placed it in the freezer to set. Once solid i filled it with ganache then back in the freezer for a bit. Then topped off with more melted chocolate. Back to the freezer to set.
A little later I popped it out and chopped into ‘cubes’ putting each one on a cocktail stick with a bit of dried pineapple.
The effect worked surprisingly well. Not perfect but enough to fool anyone that didn’t pick one up. The taste was pretty good too, the ganache was more chocolately than pineapple tasting - but the dried pineapple made up for that - and prevented it being overpoweing.
If I had silicon cubes I would fill them with a dark chocolate more fruity ganache.
Still not a bad start at confectionary, I don’t think Paul A Young will loose any sleep though.

Utilikilts Stall Originally uploaded by mac morrison.
The founder of Utilikilts and his partner were in london today as part of a whirlwind trip doing trade shows in scotland/dublin/london. They arranged for me to get into the trade only show and I got a sample Survival Kilt at a great price. They were friendly helpful and sized me correctly. Though i got a bit of a dissing for not wearing a UK on the day. Long live the Utilikilt.
